Sierra County - Sixteen to One Mine

The Sixteen to One Mine was established in 1896, there is a high concentraion of quartz vein gold. Gold imbedded in quartz is highly prized by jewelers.

The Mine Tours are open to the public by reservation only, May through October. Contact the Mine at (530) 287-3330 for further information.

The tours begin at the Museum where are informed about the history of mining in this area of the Mother Lode and specific information about the Sixteen to One Mining operations.

All tours require the ability to navigate steep terrain on foot. As you begin your journey underground, information about traditional hardrock gold mining is discussed along with the life of a miner and the geology of the area.
